![]() I found it and rather than posting that thread which is 4 pages long, I have extracted information from it that might be helpful to you. Here is the link to what he has to say, and I would suggest that you read through it and also another thread on the subject of COM's dropping out of Park. Frank has extensive experiences in rebuilding, fixing many different trannys for these old Cars of ours, including the Cruise-O-Matic. I just did a bit more research on this because I was trying to find the Tech Tip that was written by Frank La Penna ~ Thunderbirder Down Under for us in 2012. John ~ jopizz also has commented on the neutral switch perhaps needing adjustment. So then I replaced the Detent Plate, the gear shift lever, the Cup (the really expensive part) and that pretty well fixed the problem. Had I known that part was available, I would not have had him weld it, but would have bought the new part and just replaced it. It could be that he did not do a good job of welding it. After my mechanic welding that Shift Tube Selector Arm, I still had the problem of sloppy shifting, or worries about it dropping out of Park. You will also see that the Cup is nearly $100 to replace it. Key in Gear Shift Lever and enter either 1958, 1959 or 1960, and you should see the parts that are available now, regarding the Gear Shift Lever, and other parts in the steering wheel that can wear. They are all readily available from the Tbird parts houses today. The same applies to the gear shift lever, the bushings, the Cup, and Detent plate. The reason why my mechanic welded my worn washed out "key way", and the inside of the Ring as he did is because, at that time, I did not know that a new one was already readily available to buy as it still is now. It looks just like my gray one would have looked when it was new. Not all Tbird Parts houses all offer the same parts at the same prices.Īnders the OEM Shift Tube Selector Arm looked like my gray one in the picture in Post #3, minus the wear on it. It is good to get all their free catalogs though so you can price check, and check availability. So, unless one of the other parts houses had a lower price, I did most of my ordering directly from the Bird Nest and Tbird Hqs. Guess who they are going to order that/those parts from to fill your order? You got it. So if you are ordering from someone else, and they tell you that part is on back order and you will have to wait. ![]() The other reason I bought from them is because those two companies (so I was told by them) manufacture 80% of the Tbird parts available to us today. Or for parts for myself, when I was buying parts to customize my 1959 Tbird. One is that Don, and the guys at the Bird Nest have always given me great support when I call them looking for parts for members of this Forum. ![]() Anders, when I owned Tweety Bird, I did most of my parts ordering from the Bird Nest and Thunderbird Hqs, for two main reasons.
